In America, children cannot vote until they are 18 years old, since it is believed that they cannot make informed decisions, but when it comes to fateful decisions that can forever change the body and life of a child, it turns out that teenage judgment enough.

If in an American school a child slips in gym class or gets an aspirin from a nurse, parents will be immediately notified, but if a sexually active pregnant 14-year-old girl seeks an abortion through the public school system, she will have a right to confidentiality and the parents will not be notified. Currently, the United States is lobbying for a law that would allow parents not to be notified of a student’s decision to “change” gender.
